WEAR CHRISTMAS COLOURS | BRING CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

reindeergames__.jpg

‘Twas the Night Before the Games

‘Twas the night before the games, and all through the track,
The supplies were prepared, candy canes and Santa’s sack.
The oranges were purchased by Gurney with care,
In hopes that all his athletes would soon be there.

The trackies were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of “running tall” danced in their heads.
With their sneakers packed and bags by the door,
The athletes were excited — it’s the best day of Indoor!

Then down in the track there arose such a clatter,
The Merry Mile started and the runners began to scatter.
Away down the straight they ran like the wind,
The coaches with stopwatches looked on and grinned.

To play these games, you need to be lively and quick,
There’s running, trivia, even some arithmetic.
Faster than cheetahs, Gurney’s athletes they came,
And he cheered and fist-bumped and called them by name:

“Now, Sydney! now, Kelly! now, Niemi and Marynowski!
On, Ryan! on, Justin! on, Dainard and Woloski!
Stride to the cone! To the end of the wall!
Now stride away! Stride away! Stride away all!”

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the track,
The inspection of candy canes, to see if any were cracked.
Through sprints and through relays, they’d give it their all,
In this Christmas-themed contest, they’d answer the call.

They spoke not a word, but went straight to work,
Untying pairs of shoes, tied by coaches with a smirk.
Then the two Gurneys, totaled the scores,
To see who would go down in Reindeer Games folklore.

Be sure to dress in your red, green and festive gear,
Don’t miss it! For it’s only happens once a year!
The day you’ve been waiting for is only one sleep away,
What better way to start your Christmas Holiday!
